Street People
One day a street person stopped and said, "you know people are just 'selfish'. They are here, and you are here, but they do not want the baby. That is 'selfish'." This is Sidney. Many of us came to know this street person...
Happy for Jesus
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine.....They smile, they wave, they touch lives and save lives...
Do you hear the call?
Do you hear the call?
If my People....
They came they prayed. Many lives were changed that day on the street and in the cars.....would you like to make a difference?

David Bereit visits Memphis
We were so privileged this week to have David Bereit, national Campaign Director for 40 Days for Life, visit us in Memphis. He shared his heart and passion for speaking for the unborn and inspired us with stories of how God is moving through other 40 Days for Life campaigns across the country. After speaking, he stayed and prayed with us at the vigil site. It was such a boost to those that attended.

We are saving lives. Planned Parenthood loses business
We received this in an e-mail from a Prayer Volunteer. He wrote:
“Two of my daughters and a girl from my church family were stationed at the back around 11:30 am, when an older gentleman in white introduced himself as from Planned Parenthood, ‘My name is... (my daughter can't remember his name) and I am with Planned Parenthood.’ My daughter said, ‘Well I'm Lauren and I'm from the Catholic Church.’ He became upset and said they were harassing his ‘customers’ and blocking access (they assuredly were not) and if he received one more complaint, he would call the police. Then he got in his car and drove off.Just a few minutes earlier, K.W. and I had been speaking to a young couple who had brought their beautiful children (a baby and a toddler) and were headed up to Planned Parenthood for birth control. At the same time my daughters were being threatened by the PP worker, building security came down and asked K.W. if we purposely sent up the family who were creating a scene in their office. Evidently, the lovely family must have caused quite a stir! Planned Parenthood did not want to help these parents. They were too busy ending parenthood for their other 'customers'.I am very encouraged by the events that took place today. The PP worker referred to these mothers as customers. He was upset because he was losing business. Evidently, our prayerful presence is affecting Planned Parenthood's ‘customers’, and in turn, PP's bottom line. God is melting mothers' hearts. We are saving lives. PP is losing business.”

Woman conceived through rape thanks prayer volunteers for standing vigil
I was on the phone with one of our prayer volunteers and she was telling me this story:
“Two of the prayer volunteers were out at Planned Parenthood standing vigil when an older African-American woman comes up to them crying. She told them that she was a product of rape. Her mother was pregnant with her before Roe v. Wade, and everyone was telling her mother to get an abortion. Her mother told them, ‘This baby is flesh of my flesh. This baby is flesh of my flesh. This is my baby.’ Her mother did not have an abortion. The woman continued to thank the prayer volunteers for being present and praying. She said she was praying as well, and that she just wanted everyone to understand that the unborn child is not just a blob of tissue… it is a baby.”
This is such an encouraging story of a mother who chose life. God bless that mother and this child, now adult, who told us her story. Thank God for using us to touch her, and may all those who argue that abortion is ok in cases of rape for whatever reason realize that the baby is truly a baby. It is a human being, and it is, like that good mother said, “flesh of her flesh.”
Fifth Child reported saved!
One of our prayer volunteers wrote:
“On Wednesdays at Planned Parenthood, abortions happen. Planned Parenthood instructs the women to avoid the front entrance, come in through the back garage, and take the elevator up to the third floor, which Planned Parenthood is on. Because it was Wednesday we felt called to go back to the garage and stand on each side of the entrance on the public sidewalk. We loaded up the box of materials, took some Life Choice Cards and some magazines explaining abortion and headed back there. We were both praying, and a woman walks up to us. She said, ‘You know… you guys are making a difference. I work on the __th floor, and I saw you guys out here. I was scheduled to have an abortion Friday. I am seven weeks pregnant. I didn’t have the abortion. You are making a difference.’ We were so happy to hear this. Another child reported saved! It was early in the morning, and so people were still coming into work. The man who had been on News Channel 3 so excitedly claiming the ‘picket-ers’ were causing ‘streaming amounts of money to come in’ pulled into the garage. We knew his face from the news. As he pulled in he gave us a terrible look, shook his head, and sighed. He is losing business, and he obviously despises us being there. You’d think with ‘streaming amounts of money pouring in due to our presence’ he would be ecstatic to see us there. It obviously was not so. It is so wonderful that children are being saved and Planned Parenthood is losing business. Abortion hurts women. Abortion kills children. May God bring an end to abortion and Planned Parenthood’s presence in Memphis.”
Thank you Lord for this precious life, and may you bless this mother and always provide for her and the child's needs. In your goodness, we know you will.

Norma McCorvey, Jane Roe, of Roe v. Wade speaks at Mid-Point Rally!
We, 40 Days for Life Memphis, held our first Mid-Point Rally! To rejoice in the four children saved and the days past we invited Miss Norma McCorvey, Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade to come and speak. The Rally was held at River Oaks Reformed Presbyterian Church, and Pastor William Spink Jr. led us in prayer. We had over 100+ people attend the event. Norma spoke of her life before her conversion, the infamous Supreme Court case which legalized abortion in the U.S., her conversion, and now her ardent campaign against abortion. Randall Crow, 40 Days for Life Church Coordinator, welcomed everyone and introduced all the ministers present. There was a representation of many different diverse faith backgrounds present, and the unifying of all for the common cause of Life was amazing to see. The St. Benedict Teens for Life were present, as were respresentatives from Life Chain and Tennessee Citizens Concerned for Life. Devanie Cooper, Campaign Director, and David Drees, Communications Coordinator, for 40 Days for Life both spoke on how 40 Days got started in Memphis and how 40 Days hoped to get everyone involved in this crucial life-saving effort. James Riddick led everyone in prayerful song. It was an amazing and blessed event!

1407 Union Tenants disagree with what is Happening in Their Building
We received an email from one of our early Morning Prayer Volunteers who comes out every morning to pray for two hours. He wrote:
“We had at least two volunteers at the back of the building all morning. Let me tell you many, many building tenants driving into the garage gave us the thumbs-up and a smile. While Father D. and I were standing there, one woman stopped in the driveway, leaned across her front seat, rolled down the passenger-side window and gave a heartfelt ‘THANK YOU!’ to us. It brought tears to my eyes.”
We have received a lot of support from other tenants and employees working at 1407 Union Avenue on the various other floors. The Campaign Director, Devanie Cooper, wrote:
“We were standing vigil when a middle-age man who worked at 1407 Union walked up to us and said: ‘Thank you for being here. I have been wondering why you guys have not been here lining the streets on Wednesdays and Fridays, when they are performing abortions.’”
It seems like a large number of employees really disagree and are saddened by the murder of the children in the floor above or below them. May all those who work in the building be protected from all evil. May God hear our prayers and heal our land.

Fourth Child Saved
We just received an email from a Memphis Side Walk counselor who has been standing vigil in the 40 Days for Life constant vigil at Planned Parenthood that read as follows:
“I have some exciting news. D.F., who works at fed-ex had a lady come up to her who said, ‘You know I was thinking about getting an abortion, and I saw the people on the street in front of Planned Parenthood. They looked so nice and kind. I could not go in to get the abortion.’ She met with D.F., who is also another side-walk counselor, who showed her what an abortion was. She did not get an abortion.”
At the same time, the side-walk counselor wrote,
“Abortions are down at the other clinics also that D.F. is counseling at. The other day at Bellevue she said only two cars were in the parking lot. When I drove by there on Wednesday, it was the same way.”
How amazing! The power of God! The power of prayer and fasting! This just goes to show that lives are being affected and possible children are being saved we do not know about. How wonderful! We will know in Heaven how many children were saved because we sacrificed those hours during our week to go down there and be a presence for them and pray for them. May the Lord use those who have responded to His call to stand vigil in many more life-saving ways. We thank you Lord for your mercy. Thank you Lord for this precious life reported saved.

Our presence making a difference
One of our prayer volunteers reported this story:
We may never know the full results of our prayers, but sometimes we see a glimpse. Keep praying!
Last Friday a woman approached me and asked "do you think that God will hold me accountable?" I asked her "for what?" She told me that she had scheduled her daughter for an abortion for the following Tuesday. I responded, "before the Throne of God?" she looked startled at that... we spoke for awhile about how the child was all there, intelligence, personality, she just hadn't seen the child yet, that her daughter would only carry the baby nine months but they would regret an abortion for the rest of their lives. In the end I gave her some info to help her and her daughter. She looked greatly relieved and smiled, I really think she was not going to have her daughter go through with the abortion. I am hoping that it was a successful turn away. I promised that we would pray for "Pam".
We may never know the full results of our prayers, but sometimes we see a glimpse. Keep praying!

Lily saved one year ago
This woman came by today and talked to our prayer vigil participants. The baby's name is Lily. She was saved from Planned Parenthood about a year ago. The mom came to have an abortion, and people were in front of the clinic and talked with her. Her words today were:
I was inside, I was on the table, the man had the needle and I said, "Stop, I cannot do this."
Who knows what we may discover one year, two years or 10 years from now. Our decision to stand and pray may have results that we may be hidden now, but later will be revealed.
Today, this woman came for birth control, and Planned Parenthood would not let her in with the Baby.

Some early successes
We've already seen some early successes in our 40 Days for Life campaign here in Memphis. One of our vigil participants relayed the following story:
Yesterday a woman approached me and said, "I do not agree with what you are doing. Planned Parenthood only gives out birth control they do not do abortions." I told her, "oh yes, they do. They are the largest provider in US. They do 1 in 4 abortions." She was shocked. Then I told her about the stepdad who took the daughter he had been molesting that was a minor to clinic in Calif. for a late term abortion, and they never reported the abuse. The child was molested for 4 more months until the mother found out...Her view was changed.
This is what our campaign is about. Seeing hearts changed and lives saved.

Memphis 40 Days for Life kicks off
Tuesday night, September 23rd, we kicked off the 40 Days for Life campaign in Memphis. Immediately following the program at Sacred Heart church, we held a peaceful, prayerful, candle-lit walk to and around the building at 1407 Union Ave, where Planned Parenthood's abortion facility is located. It was a great start to what will be a great 40 Days.

What's the Big Deal about Abortion?
The pro-choice groups put forward a lot of different arguments for their position - the right to choose, privacy concerns, lack of viability of the fetus, among others. Many on the pro-life side can list a lot of reasons for their position, but it really comes down to one core reason, one central concept that is the basis for all the other convictions of a pro-life person. It is the basis of any intellectual discussion on abortion; it is the starting point of any reasoned thought process on the topic. That concept can be summarized in one short question:
What is the unborn?
If the unborn is simply tissue, no different from an appendix or a bad tooth that needs to be removed, then just remove it. There is no need for justifications based on 'choice' or 'privacy'. For the removal of unwanted tissue, no justification is necessary.
If, however, the unborn is a human being, then no justification is adequate. Any reasonable person would agree that it is morally wrong to kill other human beings simply for our own convenience.
Yet, this is what we, as a nation, have done, and this is the reason for our stand for life. The unborn is human and deserves to be treated as such.
We here at 40 Days for Life Memphis are committed to taking this message to the people of Memphis publically by standing and praying for the end to abortion. For 40 days, from September 24 through November 2, we will be standing and praying outside Planned Parenthood on Union Ave. Won't you join us? Visit our main site at www.40daysforlife.com/memphis for more information and to register to join us.
