Standing Vigil is a Witness!

Standing vigil at Planned Parenthood, 1407 Union Avenue, is a witness.

Two of our prayer volunteers were used by God to make an impression. They wrote us:

"We were standing vigil in the afternoon, only hours before the snow started to fall. It began to rain and sleet. We were holding our signs and giant umbrellas that kept going inside out. We continued though, trying to pray and keep in mind what actually happens in the building behind us. At one point a car pulled over and commented to us, 'Thank you for what you are doing. We were watching you from across the street at 'The Cupboard' [a restaurant]. We were just talking about the two of you standing here in this kind of weather. Wow. Thank you for what you are doing.'"

Someone else found our email and wrote us saying,

"I was visiting Memphis this past weekend and drove past your location on Union Street just as the sleet was starting. God bless you for being there in the horrible weather! A fellow Lifer from Mississippi."

When we stand there, no matter what the weather is like, we make an impression about the reality of what is behind us. It sends a message to our community and to Planned Parenthood. We, as Memphians, are not about to give up on seeking to protect life. We also do not want Planned Parenthood in our community. Especially when the weather is like it was and we still do not budge... it is a great testament to what is our strength: God.

Kick-Off Rally A Success!

The Kick-Off Rally for 40 Days for Life Memphis was a great success! Everyone met up at Sacred Heart Church, where Reverend William Spink, Jr. from River Oaks Reformed Presbyterian Church gave a talk on the reason behind the time period of "40 Days." Upon conclusion we gathered outside the church to start our walk to Planned Parenthood. Once we got there two children led us in song and prayer. It was an amazing evening, and a great, prayerful start to our 40 Days!

Those that attended sacrificed time, energy, and warmth to be there. We had people come from as far south as Tupelo, Mississippi and from as far north as Savannah, Tennessee. They drove two hours to be with us! Despite it being chilly, people of all ages made the walk (1-90 years old).

A man who joined us from Tupelo, MS wrote saying:

"I went to the kick-off last night. Chills went down my spine when I saw the building on Union Ave., but I'll never forget the dumpster in the alley, to me, it represents life being thrown out as if it were trash. An eleven year-old girl with a wonderful voice sang a song on the sidewalk corner of Planned Parenthood, that was the focal highpoint for me. You should have seen her eyes, it was as if she was staring Satan in the eye saying, 'I will not be moved.' This brings to mind a shepherd boy named David and a stand against a giant. We all should have faith and strength like this child."

teacher and very concerned for the babies. Will
you come and be a part of the largest pro-life event
in history?

We are saving lives. Planned Parenthood loses business

We received this in an e-mail from a Prayer Volunteer. He wrote:
“Two of my daughters and a girl from my church family were stationed at the back around 11:30 am, when an older gentleman in white introduced himself as from Planned Parenthood, ‘My name is... (my daughter can't remember his name) and I am with Planned Parenthood.’ My daughter said, ‘Well I'm Lauren and I'm from the Catholic Church.’ He became upset and said they were harassing his ‘customers’ and blocking access (they assuredly were not) and if he received one more complaint, he would call the police. Then he got in his car and drove off.

Just a few minutes earlier, K.W. and I had been speaking to a young couple who had brought their beautiful children (a baby and a toddler) and were headed up to Planned Parenthood for birth control.

At the same time my daughters were being threatened by the PP worker, building security came down and asked K.W. if we purposely sent up the family who were creating a scene in their office. Evidently, the lovely family must have caused quite a stir! Planned Parenthood did not want to help these parents. They were too busy ending parenthood for their other 'customers'.

I am very encouraged by the events that took place today. The PP worker referred to these mothers as customers. He was upset because he was losing business. Evidently, our prayerful presence is affecting Planned Parenthood's ‘customers’, and in turn, PP's bottom line. God is melting mothers' hearts. We are saving lives. PP is losing business.”

Fifth Child reported saved!

One of our prayer volunteers wrote:
“On Wednesdays at Planned Parenthood, abortions happen. Planned Parenthood instructs the women to avoid the front entrance, come in through the back garage, and take the elevator up to the third floor, which Planned Parenthood is on. Because it was Wednesday we felt called to go back to the garage and stand on each side of the entrance on the public sidewalk. We loaded up the box of materials, took some Life Choice Cards and some magazines explaining abortion and headed back there. We were both praying, and a woman walks up to us. She said, ‘You know… you guys are making a difference. I work on the __th floor, and I saw you guys out here. I was scheduled to have an abortion Friday. I am seven weeks pregnant. I didn’t have the abortion. You are making a difference.’ We were so happy to hear this. Another child reported saved!

It was early in the morning, and so people were still coming into work. The man who had been on News Channel 3 so excitedly claiming the ‘picket-ers’ were causing ‘streaming amounts of money to come in’ pulled into the garage. We knew his face from the news. As he pulled in he gave us a terrible look, shook his head, and sighed. He is losing business, and he obviously despises us being there. You’d think with ‘streaming amounts of money pouring in due to our presence’ he would be ecstatic to see us there. It obviously was not so. It is so wonderful that children are being saved and Planned Parenthood is losing business. Abortion hurts women. Abortion kills children. May God bring an end to abortion and Planned Parenthood’s presence in Memphis.”
Thank you Lord for this precious life, and may you bless this mother and always provide for her and the child's needs. In your goodness, we know you will.

Our presence making a difference

One of our prayer volunteers reported this story:
Last Friday a woman approached me and asked "do you think that God will hold me accountable?" I asked her "for what?" She told me that she had scheduled her daughter for an abortion for the following Tuesday. I responded, "before the Throne of God?" she looked startled at that... we spoke for awhile about how the child was all there, intelligence, personality, she just hadn't seen the child yet, that her daughter would only carry the baby nine months but they would regret an abortion for the rest of their lives. In the end I gave her some info to help her and her daughter. She looked greatly relieved and smiled, I really think she was not going to have her daughter go through with the abortion. I am hoping that it was a successful turn away. I promised that we would pray for "Pam".

We may never know the full results of our prayers, but sometimes we see a glimpse. Keep praying!

Sunrise Vigil

One morning earlier this week, some of our vigil participants were standing, praying and encouraging passers-by to pray to end abortion as the sun was coming up. May God hear our prayers and bring an end to abortion at the Memphis Regional Planned Parenthood.

Lily saved one year ago

This woman came by today and talked to our prayer vigil participants. The baby's name is Lily. She was saved from Planned Parenthood about a year ago. The mom came to have an abortion, and people were in front of the clinic and talked with her. Her words today were:
I was inside, I was on the table, the man had the needle and I said, "Stop, I cannot do this."

Who knows what we may discover one year, two years or 10 years from now. Our decision to stand and pray may have results that we may be hidden now, but later will be revealed.

Today, this woman came for birth control, and Planned Parenthood would not let her in with the Baby.

Some early successes

We've already seen some early successes in our 40 Days for Life campaign here in Memphis. One of our vigil participants relayed the following story:
Yesterday a woman approached me and said, "I do not agree with what you are doing. Planned Parenthood only gives out birth control they do not do abortions." I told her, "oh yes, they do. They are the largest provider in US. They do 1 in 4 abortions." She was shocked. Then I told her about the stepdad who took the daughter he had been molesting that was a minor to clinic in Calif. for a late term abortion, and they never reported the abuse. The child was molested for 4 more months until the mother found out...Her view was changed.
This is what our campaign is about. Seeing hearts changed and lives saved.

Standing and Praying

We started praying first thing on the morning of Wednesday, September 24th. May God hear our prayers and end abortion in Memphis.

Memphis 40 Days for Life kicks off

Tuesday night, September 23rd, we kicked off the 40 Days for Life campaign in Memphis. Immediately following the program at Sacred Heart church, we held a peaceful, prayerful, candle-lit walk to and around the building at 1407 Union Ave, where Planned Parenthood's abortion facility is located.  It was a great start to what will be a great 40 Days.
