The pro-choice groups put forward a lot of different arguments for their position - the right to choose, privacy concerns, lack of viability of the fetus, among others. Many on the pro-life side can list a lot of reasons for their position, but it really comes down to one core reason, one central concept that is the basis for all the other convictions of a pro-life person. It is the basis of any intellectual discussion on abortion; it is the starting point of any reasoned thought process on the topic. That concept can be summarized in one short question:
What is the unborn?
If the unborn is simply tissue, no different from an appendix or a bad tooth that needs to be removed, then just remove it. There is no need for justifications based on 'choice' or 'privacy'. For the removal of unwanted tissue, no justification is necessary.
If, however, the unborn is a human being, then no justification is adequate. Any reasonable person would agree that it is morally wrong to kill other human beings simply for our own convenience.
Yet, this is what we, as a nation, have done, and this is the reason for our stand for life. The unborn is human and deserves to be treated as such.
We here at 40 Days for Life Memphis are committed to taking this message to the people of Memphis publically by standing and praying for the end to abortion. For 40 days, from September 24 through November 2, we will be standing and praying outside Planned Parenthood on Union Ave. Won't you join us? Visit our main site at
